RVing is the hot new trend that everyone seems to be talking about. The allure of the open road, the freedom to explore new places, and the ability to bring your home with you are all appealing aspects of this lifestyle. However, it’s not all campfires and s'mores, as seen in a video from the RV Odd Couple YouTube channel, where they hilariously and honestly share the top 10 things they hate about RVing. Below, we’ve highlighted these points, but make sure to watch the entire video at the bottom of the article for the full experience.
1. Why is Everything So Expensive?
Living the RV lifestyle might seem like a cost-effective way to explore the world, but the reality is quite different. From safety gear to essential equipment, everything seems to come with a hefty price tag. Imagine spending $50 on an outdoor chair only to have it rust within a few months. If I’m paying that much, it better have a built-in butt warmer and make my eggs scrambled in the morning!
2. How Expensive is a Place to Stay?
You’d think bringing your own bed, kitchen, and bathroom would save you money, right? Wrong! Finding a place to park your RV can be shockingly expensive. It's like paying premium rates for a glorified parking lot. And why is it that the more you pay, the closer you are to your neighbor’s slide-outs?
3. Monetized Parking Lots
Speaking of parking lots, some RV parks are nothing more than monetized parking spaces. You pay a small fortune to stay in a spot where your RV is practically kissing the one next to it. If I wanted to hear my neighbor’s every conversation, I’d just stay in a hotel with paper-thin walls.
4. Naive Newbies
While the RV community is generally welcoming and helpful, there’s always that one newbie who thinks they know it all. We get it, you’re excited about your new adventure, but please don’t act like you’ve got it all figured out on day one. Asking for help doesn’t make you any less of an adventurer; it just makes you a smarter one.
5. Know-it-Alls
On the flip side, there are the RV know-it-alls who can’t resist giving unsolicited advice. Remember that guy who insisted you were perfectly parked, only for you to find your slide-out six inches away from a tree? Thanks, but no thanks. If anyone’s going to wreck my RV, it better be me.
6. How Dirty it is
Keeping an RV clean is a never-ending battle. Dirt, bugs, and even the occasional mouse seem to find their way inside. It’s like living in a tiny house that’s constantly under attack from the elements. And don’t get me started on how often you have to sweep the floors!
7. Hall Monitors
Every RV park has them: the self-appointed rule enforcers who walk around with a protractor and ruler, making sure everyone is following the rules to the letter. It’s like living in a neighborhood with a bunch of mall cops who have nothing better to do than write you up for minor infractions.
8. Stupid Rules
For every dumb rule, there’s an even dumber reason behind it. Like the park that had to implement a rule against flushing shrimp peelings down the toilet because some genius thought that was a good idea. Thanks to that one person, we all have to suffer through ridiculous regulations.
9. Stupid Designed Parks
Some RV parks seem to have been designed by people who have never set foot in an RV. Why is the sewer connection 30 feet away from the water spigot? And why is it uphill? A little common sense in the design phase could go a long way in making our lives easier.
10. Leaving
Leaving a campsite is always bittersweet. Whether you’re a full-timer or a weekend warrior, packing up and heading back to reality is a drag. For full-timers, it’s the excitement of a new adventure that keeps us going. For part-timers, it’s the realization that you have to go back to work on Monday.
RVing has its ups and downs, but for many, the freedom and adventure make it all worth it. For a more detailed and entertaining take on these points, be sure to watch the full video from the RV Odd Couple:
